How can I improve at Friday Night Magic and what are the best online shops for MTG cards?
I’m new to MTG, but not to trading card games. I recently started playing and have watched numerous youtube videos, read forums, card lists, etc. I went to my first FNM last week where they drafted ZEN/ZEN/WWK and I ended up pretty close to the bottom. I played green and white, but choose some other good cards for my collection. How can I improve at drafting? Should I only pull certain colors, try for Jund, or what?
For the online shops, I have used Card Kingdom, Troll and Toad, and Cool Stuff Inc. Should I stick to these or try others?
Any constructive criticism would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
When Drafting, generaly you look at the Rare card in the first pack, decide if it is a strong card. If it is, build the rest of your deck around that. If not, you look for soemthing else. Regardless, knowing what is strong in a particular set is key.
Firstly, in virtually every Magic set ever released, in drafts, creatures and creature control are king. Basically any card that is not a creature, will protect your creatures, or will directly kill your opponents creatures is garbage in a draft. Control decks are completely impractical in drafts.
Try to limit yourself to 1 or 2 colors.
You can use good Contsructed ecks for idea, so long as you pay attention to how many Rare and Mythic Rare cards are central to them. If the deck is pretty effective with just the commons and uncommons, it’s solid to build around in a draft. In Zen block, this just screams Vampires.
I find that Black and Red are the strongest colors in Zen block for drafts. But you have to be careful: if everyone is thinking the same way, They will pick each others cards over, leaving some other color(s) stronger if you happened to be grabbing them from the beginning.
