Shopping online and sizes?

Hi! I’m Italian and I’m going to buy some stuff from American online shops, such as Hollister Co. and Abercrombie (I know it’s like impossible to believe, but even with shipping taxes and stuff, it’s cheaper than almost every shop here in Italy :S). So I’m a little bit confused about sizes, because here we have a totally different sizing, and I don’t know how Hollister and Abercrombie clothes are like, I mean, if a M is a real M or maybe more like a S =) I usually wear M in shops like Zara and not more than a S in shops like H&M.
And about jeans, they have sizes from 0 to 11, but in some sites I read that US size 11 is like a 40 in Europe, and trust me, a 40 here is really small. So is size 11 so small? In this case, I’m really not able to imagine what a size 0 is like!
But then in another site I read that US size 10 is like a 44 here, which would be reasonable and would allow me to buy something xD Which is the truth?
Please I need help! XD

size 0-size 4(uk)-size 34 in europe
size 1-size 6(uk)-size 36 ” ”
size 11-size 16 (uk)-size 44 ” ”
and so on
